Induction Stove
Induction cooking heats the vessel directly through a magnetic field, so there is no open flame and less heat spills into the kitchen. An induction stove is a handy backup when the gas cylinder runs out, a main cooktop for small flats and hostels, and a convenient second burner for boiling milk, making tea or warming food. A flat, magnetic-based vessel is all it needs to work.
Power options are 1200 W, 1600 W, 1800 W and 2000 W in a Single hob, and 2000 W in a Double hob for cooking two dishes at once. Will my existing vessels work on an induction stove?
Only if they have a flat, magnetic base. Hold a fridge magnet to the bottom: if it sticks firmly, the vessel should work. Cast iron usually works, while plain aluminium, copper, brass, glass and soapstone vessels will not work on induction.
Is a 2000 W induction stove better than a 1200 W one?
Higher wattage heats faster and copes better with larger vessels, but it also draws more power. A 1200 W or 1600 W Single hob is enough for tea, milk and small meals, while 2000 W suits regular family cooking. The Double hob comes in 2000 W.
