About this piece
Brass Handi
With its deep, rounded body, the handi is made for slow cooking: dals, rice dishes and dum-style preparations simmer gently and stay moist. Brass handis are also a favourite for serving at weddings, festive lunches and family functions, where a polished vessel on the table adds a sense of occasion. Many families keep one simply as a handsome storage pot for water or grains.
Two finishes are available: Plain, with a smooth, bright surface, and Hammered, whose dimpled texture catches the light. For cooking, brass is traditionally tin-lined (kalai), so please ask whether the handi you like is lined before using it for sour or salty dishes. It suits families who cook for gatherings or simply like to serve in style. Drop in at the Sullurupeta store opposite SBI Bank, or send us a WhatsApp message to check what is in stock.

Care & use
- Do not store curd, pickles, tamarind or citrus in unlined brass; move leftovers to another container.
- On the Hammered finish, use a soft brush with tamarind or lemon to clean inside the dimples.
- Dry completely after washing to prevent water spots and dark patches.

Questions
Before you buy
Still unsure about a size or finish? Ask us on WhatsApp — a photo of your stove or shelf helps.
What is the difference between the Plain and Hammered brass handi?
The difference is only in the surface. Plain has a smooth, polished look, while Hammered has an all-over dimpled texture that many people find more decorative. Both are brass and are used in exactly the same way, so choose the look you prefer.
Can I cook biryani or dal in a brass handi?
Yes, if the handi is tin-lined (kalai). Biryani marinades, tamarind and tomato are sour and react with bare brass, so traditional brass cookware is tinned for such cooking. Ask us whether the piece you like is lined, or keep it for serving and storage.
