About this piece
Soapstone Storage Jar
Long before plastic and glass, South Indian homes stored pickles, salt, tamarind and curd in stone jars, and many families still prefer them. Stone is valued for this because, unlike unlined brass or copper, it does not react with sour or salty foods. A heavy soapstone jar also stays put on a kitchen shelf, and pickles such as avakaya or gongura can be kept in it through the season.
The jars come in Small, Medium and Big, from a size for salt or tamarind to one for a larger batch of mango pickle. They suit households that make pickles at home and anyone moving away from plastic storage. Wash and dry the jar fully before its first use. All three sizes are on display at our showroom opposite SBI Bank in Sullurupeta, and questions are welcome on WhatsApp.

Care & use

- Handle carefully, as stone can chip or crack if it is knocked against a hard surface or dropped.

Questions
Before you buy
Still unsure about a size or finish? Ask us on WhatsApp — a photo of your stove or shelf helps.
Is a soapstone jar suitable for storing pickles?
Yes, storing pickles is one of the most traditional uses of soapstone jars, because stone does not react with sour or salty foods the way unlined metal can. Make sure the jar is completely dry before filling, and always use a dry spoon.
Which soapstone jar size should I buy?
Choose by what you plan to store. The Small jar suits salt, tamarind or a little pickle, Medium suits regular household pickles, and Big suits larger batches made once a year. Seeing them in the showroom helps you judge how much each one holds.
